2K Games was hit by a cyber attack yesterday, in which emails containing malware were sent to consumers.
The company has confirmed that. Hackers gained access to the publisher’s help desk account. This allowed them to send emails to customers containing malware, disguised as a new 2K launcher.
The helpdesk is temporarily closed as a precaution and people who have recently received an email from the publisher are advised to see it as fake. If people did open the link in the email, the company recommends that the user change any passwords stored in the browser, use an antivirus program, and enable two-step verification where possible.
To the best of our knowledge, no user data has been leaked. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to the user,” 2K said.
