Jaguars Coaching Search: Cowboys Dan Quinn Not To Interview For HC In Two Week Allowed Window

When you have a Lion on the ground leading your defense, it makes jaguars less appealing. If you listen closely you can hear the Dallas Cowboys smile, and not just because they went undefeated in December and punctuated their current 11-4 record with a demolition of the Washington football team, but also because they have yet another reason to love Dan. Quinn.

They received a request this week from the Jacksonville Jaguars to interview Quinn for their vacant head coach position – adding him to a rapidly growing roster that includes Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore – during the new window of two weeks authorized by the NFL to close the 2021 season.

He won’t accept their offer, however. Sources confirm to CBS Sports that Quinn refused to interview the Jaguars for their vacant HC position, instead deciding to focus 100% on the task at hand: trying to coordinate what is arguably the best defense in the league at the Super Bowl LVI. The Jaguars’ request was just a formality to get permission from the Cowboys, as teams cannot block interviews when a promotion is involved. That has left the decision up to Quinn, who wants nothing to do with the dumpster fire that has mushroomed in North Florida and has now shown, unequivocally, that he is all over it. the war chest he is building in North Texas.

Asked about interest in Quinn and Moore, head coach Mike McCarthy said he wasn’t surprised, but also noted that neither had deviated from their laser focus in Dallas.

“Yeah, definitely,” McCarthy said Wednesday. “Just the little conversations I’ve had, frankly I think these questions suit Dan and Kellen better. But I think as long as it’s common sense, and I think it’s definitely in place here. They both worked the same hours and are committed to sticking to the game plan and so on.

“Whatever time is appointed I’m sure it will be a good way if it happens as we go along. I’m sure it won’t be the first time we talk about it. The details of this I think it’s more up to Dan and Kellen to talk about it, but I don’t see it as any interference in our preparation. “

A day earlier, owner Jerry Jones congratulated the two coordinators and said he wanted them to explore whatever opportunities they feel they should, given that they care about how they’re doing with it. Cowboys, but as long as the timing is not risky for the later – pointing out how the later would be greatly diminished (or completely made to not exist) is the now is not focused on.

“I wish they would go ahead and have all the visits they want and just stay there,” Jones told 105.3FM The Fan. “I would be confident and I would have experienced it many times and convinced that their mind is on our team and the opportunity that we have. It is in everyone’s best interests to win. When you are in this situation, it’s in everyone’s best interest for the team that you coach to win and run.

“People actually watch that when they look at the coaches and see how they’ve stood and been stable and consistent as they stick with their mission at hand, which is to win now, to beat the Cardinals. from Arizona no matter what you do with your thoughts for the future. I can tell you now that anyone I know has been successful, and I’m not talking about the coaches, you have to be able to think of more than one thing.

“That’s a big part of it. You have to be able to handle it. “

The Cowboys nearly lost Moore to a much more attractive HC offer in 2020 in his Boise State alma mater, and he took an interview with the Philadelphia Eagles (which was still nothing more than practice. for him) but Jones used both his bottomless checkbook and the emergence of Dak Prescott to convince Moore to sign a three-year extension which is in place until 2023.

Having recently acquired Quinn in the final offseason following Mike Nolan’s sacking after the latter’s abysmal year-long stay in Dallas, Quinn has repeatedly proven himself to be one of the best defensive coordinators in the league. NFL – leading a defense that is best in the league in take-out (34) and allows just 20.5 points per game (7th) as it just became whole in December. Quinn has captured the hearts of every player in the locker room, every coach in the building and every front office executive, and it’s now clear the feeling is mutual.

There are plenty of reasons he would choose to give the Jaguars a cold shoulder, regarding the list of toxic issues within this organization, therefore combining those drawbacks with the advantages that exist in Dallas – including being on the verge of designing the Legion of Boom 2.0 led by young superstars like cornerback Trevon Diggs and the Lion: Previously referenced Micah Parsons – Quinn will continue to generate interest during the offseason and beyond, and rightly so, but after A painful end to his time with the Atlanta Falcons barely a year ago, he’s in no rush to leave a good thing for something that might never come close.

That said, he might be willing to at least take them out during the offseason, and if they’re not in Jacksonville. But if Quinn continues to play his cards right, Jones will also have no problem making him a financial offer that he will have a hard time refusing – as he did with Moore.
