Justin Jefferson hasn’t spoken to Mike Zimmer since making post-game comments about Vikings’ lack of energy

Justin Jefferson was frustrated with the Minnesota Vikings and their slow starts, not hiding how much he thinks they contributed to Minnesota’s 7-8 record. The Vikings wide receiver isn’t backing down either, although head coach Mike Zimmer thinks Jefferson was just showing signs of frustration.

“I agree with him, I’m just frustrated,” Jefferson said, via Chris Tomasson of Twin Cities Pioneer Press. “I really didn’t feel like we had enough energy that we should have had, especially against a team like this (the Los Angeles Rams). We have to use this energy, this high motor, this tempo. I felt like we lacked that. “

Jefferson said he hadn’t spoken to Zimmer about the comments and didn’t think it would be necessary.

“We haven’t talked about it too much,” Jefferson said. “(Zimmer) knows me as a person, knows who I am and knows that I won’t say anything that could hurt the team or hurt anyone.”

Zimmer played down Jefferson’s frustration earlier in the week as the Viking season spirals out of control. Minnesota fell from the No.7 seed in the conference with Sunday’s loss to Los Angeles, requiring a win and loss for the Philadelphia Eagles to reappear as the No.7 seed in the conference.

It’s water under the bridge, but this water is boiling.

“I think Justin was just frustrated,” Zimmer said Tuesday, per Tomasson. “Hey, we’re all frustrated when we don’t win the game. We’re all frustrated. We all say things 10 minutes into the game that we wish we didn’t have.… In my opinion, he just wants to win. of that is that he wants to get the ball back if he can. And I don’t think he’s calling anyone. That’s not the kind of person he is. “

Jefferson has 97 catches for 1,451 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021, ranking fifth in the league in receptions, second in yards received and sixth in touchdowns received – yet the Vikings are not winning games despite his play on the field . Calling on his team to start in games faster could be Jefferson’s last effort before frustrations lead to changes in roster and training in the future.
