Prisco’s pick for NFL Week 18: 49ers lose, miss playoffs; Chargers win in winning match or at home

0

I did it. I finally did.

I touched the Triple Crown.

After weeks of closing, Week 17 turned out to be my best overall week for NFL game selection, as I was successful in all three areas: ATS, straight, and with my best bets as part of the podcast. Pick Six.

I went 12-4 both ATS and straight, and I was 6-1 with my best bets. This brings my ATS season record to 137-116-3, my direct record to 160-95-1 and my best bet record to 57-50.

It’s a hell of a week – if I say so myself.

Now I have to end with a big one. Let’s shoot for Triple Crown again as the season draws to a close and hope we head into the playoffs on a hot streak.

Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Latest odds: Denver Broncos +11.5

If the Chiefs have any chance of securing the seed, they have to win this game. They have just suffered a tough loss to the Bengals, a loss where the defense let them down. That defense will bounce back here, and the Chiefs offense will have another good day. Denver can’t score. The great chefs.

Take: Chefs 33, Broncos 14

Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Latest odds: Philadelphia Eagles +5

How will these teams play this game? Both are in the playoffs, but the standings are on the line. The Cowboys haven’t looked offensive in recent weeks, while the Eagles have found life behind their running game. Jerry Jones has hinted that the Cowboys will play to win. The Eagles have concerns about COVID and could rest some players. Dallas will take it.

Take: Cowboys 27, Eagles 17

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Detroit Lions +3.5

How will the Packers play this? They could sit guys with the first seed wrapped. They could play them little and then take them out. But it’s also not like the Lions are teeming with high-profile talent. Detroit looked bad last week, but Jared Goff could return this week. I think the Lions hang around.

Take: Packers 24, Lions 21

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount +)

Latest odds: Jacksonville Jaguars +15.5

The Colts need it to qualify for the playoffs, while the Jaguars go on vacation after a horrific season. They traditionally play against the Colts, but that won’t be the case here. Their offense is terrible. Jonathan Taylor has had some great days against the Jaguars and will be there to lead the Colts too.

Take: Colts 27, Jaguars 10

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: New York Giants +7

This is a game featuring two teams that have had disappointing seasons. The Giants will start Jake Fromm here as a third quarterback. Washington played well last week against the Eagles running short, and I think that will continue.

Take: Washington 24, Giants 10

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Minnesota Vikings -5.5

It could be the last game for both coaches, as both have had bad seasons. The Vikings are the better team and they will take Kirk Cousins off the COVID list. The Bears played well last week, but it was against the Giants. The Vikings will get the best of it.

Take: Vikings 28, Bear 21

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount +)

Latest odds: Houston Texans +10

If the Titans win, they’re the AFC seed. This is because they play a physical style of football. But the Texans beat them in the first meeting. Houston is also playing much better. The Titans will win, but it will be tight.

Take: Titans 25, Texans 20

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount +)

Latest odds: Baltimore Ravens -5

The Steelers are still alive for a playoff berth, but it’s a long way off. The Ravens are done. But every time these two get together, it’s a physical battle. They don’t love each other. That’s why I think the Ravens will find a way to pull this game off to end the Steelers’ season, especially with the Steelers on a short week.

Take: Ravens 28, Steelers 21

Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Cleveland Browns -6

This game means nothing to Cleveland, but it will have an impact on the seedling of the Bengals. Cincinnati is going high on offense, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t continue here. Look for Joe Burrow to continue against a team ready for the holidays.

Take: Bengals 30, Browns 20

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -8

Caroline is a mess and she has big offensive line problems. That will play out here as a major issue in this game. The Tampa Bay frontline will dominate this one, just as it did when we last met a few weeks ago. Tampa Bay wins big as it prepares for the playoffs.

Take: Bucs 31, Panthers 13

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount +)

Latest odds: Miami Dolphins +6

The Patriots are playing for a potential division title, while the Dolphins have finished. Miami is coming off a terrible offensive performance last week and it won’t improve here. New England will limit them again and score enough to avenge their Week 1 loss.

Take: Patriots 27, Dolphins 14

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Atlanta Falcons +3.5

The Saints are barely alive in the playoff pursuit, while the Falcons are done. The motivation is on the Saints’ side, but it is a rivalry with two teams who know each other well. I’m going to take the house dog here to stay close to it because Matt Ryan is playing well.

Take: Saints 23, Falcons 21

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS, Paramount +)

Latest odds: Buffalo Bills -16

The Bills can lock the AFC East with a win, while the Jets play the game. The Bills will be much more focused in trying to lock the division. Plus, they’re the best team. This one should get ugly. The bills are big.

Take: Tickets 34, Jets 14

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Los Angeles Rams -4.5

The 49ers need it to make the playoffs, while the Rams need it to win the division. This makes it one of the more interesting games of the week. The 49ers under Kyle Shanahan got the better of the Rams and Sean McVay, including beating them earlier this year. Matt Stafford is struggling, but he will play well here. Rams understand.

Take: Aries 27, 49ers 20

Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET (Fox)

Latest odds: Arizona Cardinals -6.5

The Cardinals are coming off an impressive road victory over the Cowboys, but they haven’t played as well at home. It will change here. The Cardinals need this game to eventually win the division, as the Seahawks head for the beach. It is important. Arizona takes it as the offensive resumes.

Take: Cardinals 31, Seahawks 23

Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC)

Latest odds: Las Vegas Raiders +3

This is a playoff game. The winner comes in and the loser comes home – unless they’re tied. The Raiders surprised more than one by beating the Colts on the road, and they did it with their defense. This unity will be challenged here by Justin Herbert. I think the Chargers are playing well enough on offense to win this one. They’re coming into the playoffs.

Take: Chargers 31, Raiders 23
