Portland Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard will undergo abdominal surgery on Thursday and be reassessed in six to eight weeks, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
The six-time All-Star has had issues with his midsection all season. He’s missed the last five games and 11 overall.
Reports say Lillard’s return schedule will be determined after discussions with doctors and specialists after the procedure. At this point, Lillard is expected to return later this season.
Lillard is said to have compounded the injury during the Tokyo Olympics while playing for the USA team this summer.
Portland is 4-7 in games Lillard has missed this season.
The injury affected Lillard’s shot early in the season and he never made a full recovery. 10-year veteran hits career low in the field (40.2%) and 3 points (32.4)
Lillard, 31, averages 24 points and 7.3 assists in 29 games.
Portland was also without shooting guard CJ McCollum (lung). He’ll miss his 17th straight game when the Trail Blazers (16-24) begin a six-game road trip against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.
