Bol Bol trade canceled: Pistons-Nuggets deal fails after physical failure, report says

Bol Bol returns to the Denver Nuggets. The trade that would have sent the 7-foot-2 tall man to the Detroit Pistons has been called off, according to Mike Singer of the Denver Post, after Bol failed his physical exam. Rodney McGruder will return to the Pistons, as will the Brooklyn Nets second-round pick in 2022.

It is not known what the Pistons discovered in the physical. Bol, 22, hasn’t run out of injury time since the Nuggets selected him with the No.44 pick in the 2019 Draft.

Bol will be a restricted free agent this summer. He’s only played 53 games in his three seasons in Denver, including 14 (for a total of 81 minutes) this season. It looked like he might have more opportunities to play for a rebuilding Detroit team, but now that will have to wait. He remains a business candidate until the February 10 deadline, provided he’s healthy enough that another team can acquire him.

McGruder, 30, is also a good bet to negotiate elsewhere. He’s got an expiring $ 1.9 million contract, and the Nuggets aren’t the only playoff team needing second-place depth. Unless these two teams can negotiate a different deal, Denver may have to seek other reinforcements.
