Franz Wagner and Magic praised Sixers superstar Joel Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is considered one of the best players in the league, regardless of his position. Although he is 7 feet tall and is a cross, he is able to do things a guard can do with his grip and the ability to go out and shoot jumpers.

During Philadelphia’s 4-game winning streak, Embiid is averaging 34.3 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. On top of that, he shoots 60.5% from ground and 53.3% from depth on 3.8 attempts per game. Those are incredible numbers because he threw the Sixers on their backs.

As Philadelphia prepares for the Orlando Magic on the road Wednesday, the Sixers star leader clearly has respect for the Magic as rookie Franz Wagner has heaped praise on him.

“He’s probably the best big player in the league, offensively and defensively,” Wagner said. “I think he’s a very good two-way player. He can do anything on the pitch so it’s going to be really hard to stop him. Obviously it’s part of our game plan tonight to focus on him a lot.

Magic coach Jamahl Mosley was also in awe of what Embiid can do given his size on the floor.

“Just its versatility,” Mosley said. “What he’s able to do at his size and shoot 3s, post-ups, tough and doubles teams, or single covers, just by reading the game, his versatility is something incredible. He’s a fierce guard night after night.

In Philadelphia’s win over the Magic on Nov. 29, Embiid was limited to just 16 points on a 4-on-16 shot with 13 rebounds and five assists. Orlando was able to use a combination of Wendell Carter Jr. and Mo Bamba to bother him a bit and the Sixers needed Seth Curry to step up and close the game.

“I think Wendell did a great job on him in the last game but like I said he’s a superstar so you have to try and do your best and Wendell always does,” Wagner added . “We just have to give him some help and I hope we win the game.”

As Embiid and the Sixers gear up for this game on Wednesday, they’ll need to be able to make sure the big guy is ready for a Carter Jr. and Bamba combination. The two will certainly present him with their own challenges.

“It’s great that these guys are up for the challenge,” Mosley said. “Wendell did a great job in his minutes, Mo did a great job in his minutes and the different styles of how you have to play it. One of our young men has to use his length, the other uses his physique and speed. We’re just talking about understanding what gifts you have and how do you use them to stop what he’s trying to do there. “

The Sixers and the Magic will give the green light at 7 p.m. EST from the Amway Center.
