The Philadelphia 76ers are going to be embroiled in plenty of trade rumors over the next two weeks before the Feb. 10 trade deadline, as they currently possess the biggest trade domino in the form of Ben Simmons.
With Simmons’ value so hard to crack that the Sixers want a top-25 player back in a deal when other teams aren’t so interested in hitting that asking price, Philadelphia threw in another small trick: Tobias Harris.
The Sixers are reportedly looking to offload Harris’ contract in order to properly tackle bigger names in the offseason such as James Harden. It would be difficult to do so given Harris’ dip in production from the 2020-21 season and his high contract count, but it’s not entirely impossible.
The Sacramento Kings are a team seemingly desperate for a shakeup and they’ve even talked about moving De’Aaron Fox to the Sixers as part of a deal.
According to veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein via his substack, the Kings might even be convinced to accept Harris’ deal as well:
I’ve heard Sacramento described by more than one rival team as the closest thing a business partner you could classify as a “favorite” to bringing a resolution to Simmons’ seemingly endless stalemate before the deadline (in current state of affairs). Reason: More than one rival team believes Sacramento, in its desire for a meaningful shakeup as it heads to a record 16th straight season outside the playoffs, could be persuaded to accept Tobias Harris’ contract to facilitate an agreement with Simmons. If the Sixers can’t get the high-flying player they covet, it might be too tempting to resist rather than hold. for one star in return.
With the deadline fast approaching, the Sixers are going to have the eyes of nearly everyone in the league focused on them as they hammer out this deal with Simmons. There will be plenty of questions about where Simmons will end up as well as whether the Sixers could exit Harris’ contract and free up some offseason space.
