Klay Thompson formalizes return to Warriors lineup on Sunday

After two and a half years, it finally happened:

Klay Thompson will return to the Warriors roster on Sunday at the Chase Center against the Cavaliers. He made the announcement on Instagram, claiming Bill Murray is his spirit animal.

The Warriors quickly returned the expected official.

The last time we saw Thompson on the field for the Warriors was during the 2019 NBA Finals, and since then he’s suffered both an ACL tear and Achilles rupture. It’s been a long process, but Thompson got to work.

Steve Kerr has said he will start Thompson when he returns, but he will undoubtedly have a minute limit. The goal is to increase Thompson’s minutes and workload so that he once again becomes a key playoff contributor, making the Warriors even more dangerous.

Kerr will have work to do to make sure Jordan Poole – now headed for the bench – Gary Payton II and others still feel involved despite reduced minutes and a change of role. The Warriors have a strong culture and are among the favorites for the title, which should keep everyone focused.
