With 8 players in the league, France is one of the best represented countries in the NBA. An international tricolor wants to return there soon and, given its current appearances, can dream of it!
While they wait to see whether Sekou Doumbouya or Joel Ayayi find a team in the coming weeks, eight of them are proud to represent their country in the toughest competition in the world. Nicolas Batum, Evan Fournier, Rudy Gobert, Killian Hayes, Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot, Théo Maledon, Frank Ntilikina and Killian Tillie are actually trying to carry the French flag as dignified as possible in the NBA.
If the first 4 play an important role in their respective franchise, the others will have to deal with a shorter playing time. Conversely, a former resident of the League from France took a different path this summer with Elie Okobo. The former Suns player who is now a member of ASVEL stated this choice in a recent interview with Tire hype.
The last time I played in the United States was in the G-League bubble. And I didn’t like the experience. Not because of my team or my coaches, but because I played with pain in my ankle. It was frustrating. I decided to have the operation in the summer and I wanted to play the Summer League to 100% of my ability to find a team there. But it wasn’t possible. Tony Parker called me at this point, he wanted to take me over and it helped me recover from my injury and surgery.
Rudy Gobert goes beyond a legend, he reacts!
In fact, since the beginning of the season, Okobo has been showing a radiant face in the colors of Villeurbanne. Taking part in the EuroLeague with the club from the Lyon suburb, the 24-year-old leader shines there because he is simply the best scorer in the competition (19.6 points), all with excellent accuracy (55.3% when shooting, 51.0 % at 3 points)!
Elie Okobo has big goals for his return to the NBA
As the author of more than successful beginnings in the European scene, Okobo could claim to establish himself permanently on the old continent. No. The Bordelais can imagine returning to the NBA more or less long term and not just scratching a few minutes!
I didn’t really have a comeback goal or schedule, deadline or anything. I want to improve, be prepared, and make sure I don’t come back to the NBA like a rookie. I want to reach a certain level and come back with real status as a great EuroLeague player. Obviously I want to have a long career in the NBA, but right now I’m focusing on my team and myself.
In order to return to the NBA, the international tricolor (8 selections) must continue at the same pace as it is now and keep ASVEL at the top of the EuroLeague rankings!
With 2 NBA seasons, Elie Okobo doesn’t want to stay away from the league for too long. In sight at ASVEL, he hopes to attract the attention of the American scouts again with his good performance at ASVEL!
