The Boston Celtics poked fun at Russell Westbrook after beating the Los Angeles Lakers by a clear margin.
After the 130-108 victory at TD Garden, ex-Laker Dennis Schröder was interviewed by NBC Sports Boston. As the German said a few words about the game, the phrase “You all pay Russ $ 44 million lol” faded next to his name.
Over the summer, LA decided to trade Westbrook and not make a new offer to Schröder after turning down $ 84 million over 4 years during the season. At the Lakers, Westbrook is set to form a new Big Three with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but is currently well below expectations.
His chances are still below his career averages (42.8% from the field, 30% from downtown, 68.8% from the free throw line), his defense is also sometimes dizzying and in the minutes without LeBron he does not manage the Bear offensive. Lakers.
NBA: Schröder always better for Boston
Westbrook also remained pale for a long time against Boston, scoring just 12 points (5/13 FG) and taking a few wild lines at the start of the shot clock. Schröder, meanwhile, is finding his way better and better in Boston and has been cleared to start since Jaylen Brown got injured.
He repays this confidence, over the season he totaled 17 points and 5 assists at 44% from the field and 32% from the outside. Against the Lakers he was the third best pitcher with 21 points and 6 rebounds after Jayson Tatum (37) and Marcus Smart (22) and with his super-fast workouts he couldn’t be stopped by the Lakers defense.
Westbrook has still been under contract for two years and a total of 91 million with the Lakers, he is making 44 million this season alone. Schröder, however, signed with the Celtics for 5.9 million and only one year.
