What a crime thriller in Indiana! The Los Angeles Lakers retracted on a spectacular 124: 116 overtime victory over the Indiana Pacers. The dominant man in the game was LeBron James.
Indiana Pacers (8-12) – Los Angeles Lakers (10-10) 116: 124 OT (BOXSCORE)
James, who was suspended in the previous game against the New York Knicks due to his argument with Isaiah Stewart, scored 39 points (13/29 FG) against Indiana and had 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks. It was a high season for LeBron, but the most important thing was when he got his points.
LeBron had already shown up at the end of regulation time, a deep line from the 36-year-old to reach 110: 104 seemed to signify the decision 1:17 minutes to go. The Pacers had something against that, however, a very wild shot from rookie Chris Duarte took the game into overtime. James himself put a potential buzzerbeater aside.
Instead, the decision was taken in overtime. With a score of 114: 114, the four-time MVP only managed a trio after an assist from Wayne Ellington, just under a minute later another receding trio followed from afar, after which James unboxed its patented muffler cheers. 41 seconds before the end, he let his points 7 and 8 follow overtime in the middle distance, the game was decided.
Indiana Pacers scored just 4 points in overtime
On his return to the Lakers’ formation, James was mainly supported by Russell Westbrook (20 points, 5/15 FG) and a good bank around Malik Monk (17), Ellington and Carmelo Anthony (both 14). Anthony Davis had to sit still with flu-like symptoms which, among other things, led to LeBron being the nominal center on the pitch for a long time in the closing minutes.
The Pacers actually got off to a better start in the game and seemed to have it under control for a long time. In the third quarter, the hosts were up to 12 points ahead, at the start of the fourth quarter, it was 9 points, but they did not win.
Malcolm Brogdon was the Pacers’ top scorer with 28 points, six other players scored in double-digit points, including Duarte (17). In overtime, however, Indiana only managed 4 points.
The Lakers, on the other hand, retain their weakness for spectacular wins after extra time: for the fourth time this season the 2020 champion had to go into overtime, and for the fourth time the game was won in extra minutes.
