Michael Porter Jr. of the Denver Nuggets is indefinitely out of action. The forward is struggling with a nervous problem in his back, and surgery doesn’t seem to be ruled out at this point. It could mean the end of the season.
This is what Mike Singer of the Denver Post reports. As a result, Porter Jr. struggled with his back again, which is why the forward fell to position 14 in the draft. According to Singer, it’s even possible the 23-year-old will miss the rest of the season.
Porter Jr. has missed the last seven games, with coach Michael Malone saying in early November that his winger would be out for a long time. The forward only played three games in college with spinal surgery and then missed his entire rookie season in Denver with another back surgery.
In his third season, Porter Jr. made his breakthrough with the Nuggets, also because he was in good shape most of the season. In 61 games, the forward has posted 19 points and 7.3 rebounds with odds of 54.2% on the field and 44.5% on the triple line. That was enough for the Nuggets to outfit Porter Jr. with a rookie expansion this summer.
Starting in 2022, Porter Jr. will raise at least $ 172 million over five years, of which 145 is guaranteed. Some milestones could even take Porter Jr. up to $ 207 million.
If Porter Jr. failed now, it would be a huge setback for the ambitious Nuggets, who reached the conference final in 2020 and also won at least one playoff series last year. At that time, however, Jamal Murray, who tore his cruciate ligament at the Golden State Warriors in April, was missing. At this point, one can still wonder if the Canadiens will be able to intervene again this season.
