According to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sacramento Kings have become the first franchise to sack head coach Luke Walton this season.
Under the 41-year-old, the team have lost seven of their last eight games and started the season 6-11.
Alvin Gentry will take over as interim coach. The 67-year-old has a lot of experience and has already been under contract as a head coach for five other NBA teams.
Walton has played 161 games as the Kings head coach in over two seasons and has only been able to win 68 of those games, 93 times the Kings have lost ground.
General manager Monte McNair now has the option of signing his own preferred candidate. Walton was hired under former general manager Vlade Divac.
Sacramento is the franchise with the longest active losing streak in the NBA playoffs. There hasn’t been any postseason basketball in the California capital for 15 seasons.
