The Los Angeles Lakers had a big test on Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies, but everyone except LeBron James – and Talen Horton-Tucker to some extent – failed.
Los Angeles trailed 29 points at one point against Memphis, and while a wild rally in the fourth quarter brought the score closer, that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Memphis beat LA in the second and third quarters. The Lakers couldn’t buy a basket all night as the Grizzlies got what they wanted on the defensive end of the floor.
James led the Lakers with 35 points and Horton-Tucker added 13 on the bench before Austin Reaves and Wayne Ellington caught fire in the fourth. No other starter has scored more than seven points.
Here’s what NBA Twitter had to say about the Lakers’ loss:
LeBron had 35 points tonight, the rest of the Lakers starters had 22 combined.
This is his 18th game at 30 points this season, the most in the NBA.
The Lakers have lost 8 of those games, the most in the NBA. pic.twitter.com/tfQwc1rpGw

LeBron is 8 for 11, but the rest of the Lakers only 10 for 30.

Russ was so horribly bad in this game… just hurting the team on both sides.

The Lakers’ small lineup is gr8 for spacing and scoring, but they crash into the glass and offer no resistance to the basket.
