The owner of the Golden State Warriors, Joe Lacob, was fined $ 50,000 on Wednesday. The reason is a violation of the anti-tampering rules, as the NBA announced.
Lacob had last commented on the ongoing trade rumors about Sixers star Ben Simmons in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. Although the 65-year-old stated that Simmons was not a match for the Warriors, he also said: “He is very talented”.
The league interpreted this as tampering. NBA team officials are not permitted to speak about players who are under contract with rival teams.
The Warrios were repeatedly traded as trade candidates for Simmons over the summer. The 25-year-old had requested a trade in the summer and no longer wants to play a game for the Sixers. He apparently does not want to appear at the start of the training camp next week.
Despite the messy situation in Philadelphia, Coach Doc Rivers said on Wednesday that he hoped he could convince Simmons to stay with the Sixers. At the moment, however, this seems very unlikely.
