Through a video broadcast on his social networks that he titled: “Adiós, boxeo (Goodbye boxing)”, the Tagalog made official what he had advanced a few weeks ago: an imminent retirement after falling to the Cuban Yordenis Ugás in which he was his last fight.
In a sense of homage, in English and Filipino, Manny reviewed his years as a professional boxer, from his beginnings with his uncle Sardo Mejia, to the 8 world titles he won in different divisions.
“Boxing was not only my passion. It gave me the opportunity to represent the Philippines with honor every time I stepped into the ring. To the fans of the world, thank you very much, I have always appreciated all your support throughout the years, “he said in his video.
“Today, I announce my retirement. I never believed that this day would come, Something from all of the Philippines will remain in my gloves. Goodbye boxing, thank you for changing my life and giving my family hope and the path out of poverty, because thanks to you, I can inspire other people and change lives. I will never forget everything I accomplished in my life, “he added.
Now, Manny Pacquiao, at the request of his family and with the knowledge of his journey, will dedicate himself to politics in his quest to be president of the Philippines.
