Alexa Grasso has withdrawn following the injury of Viviane Araujo

Alexa Grasso will not be attending later this month.

The UFC flyweight contender has been pulled from UFC 270 following the withdrawal of her opponent, Viviane Araujo, a person familiar with the change told MMA Junkie on Saturday. UFC 270 takes place on January 22 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Brazilian Araujo (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) retired earlier this week due to an injury, which was first reported by ESPN Deportes. It’s unclear if the UFC intends to hold the game and reschedule for a future date or if Grasso (13-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) will have a new opponent on a future card.

Grasso most recently fought in February 2021 and edged Maycee Barber in a unanimous decision at UFC 258. She was due to return in November against Joanne Calderwood, but an injury halted her return. Grasso has been on a two-game winning streak since moving to the flyweight division in 2020.
