Aljamain Sterling says Petr Yan rematch likely moved to April

It looks like fans may have to wait for the highly anticipated rematch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan.

The two were originally scheduled to return to UFC 272 in March at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but according to UFC bantamweight champion Sterling (20-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) his first title defense will now be will probably take place a month later.

“Apparently it’s only April now. The potato can’t dodge me forever!

This will be the third time that a fight between Sterling and Yan (16-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) has been called off or postponed. Yan pulled out of his scheduled first fight at UFC 256 for personal reasons, and the fight was rescheduled for UFC 259 in March. Sterling was awarded the belt by disqualification when Yan hit him with an illegal knee which rendered “The Funkmaster” unable to continue.

The rematch was scheduled for UFC 267 in October, but this time it was Sterling who stepped down due to ongoing issues with neck surgery. Yan faced Cory Sandhagen for the interim bantamweight title instead, outlawing him in a thrilling stand-up battle.

Yan capturing the interim title only raised the stakes in his rematch with Sterling, who took the opportunity to make fun of Yan for delaying their fight.

“I guess Cheotr and I are still in the process of withdrawing from the fighting for serious injuries. Oh wait … “personal reasons” ain’t hurt

I’m coming to get your boy! Believe me!”
