Artem Lobov talks about his famous altercation with Khabib Nurmagomedov

MMA – Artem Lobov gives his version of the facts about his altercation with Khabib Nurmagomedov before UFC 223, in 2018.

The rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor is arguably one of the most violent in UFC history. If trash-talking is commonplace to promote fights, the two men went even further by causing incidents outside the octagon. Everyone remembers the general scuffle which followed the victory of the Russian over the Irishman. A few months earlier, McGregor had attacked a UFC bus his rival was in, including smashing a window with the help of a hand truck.

This attack was in retaliation for another incident that had occurred a few hours earlier. Indeed, Artem Lobov, training partner and friend of the ‘Notorious’, had been taken to task by Nurmagomedov and his clan backstage at Barclays Center in New York. The Irishman then jumped on a plane to come and settle accounts with Nurmagomedov.

Speaking to Severe MMA, Lobov returned to the clash between him and his compatriot. Here is what he said:

“Khabib approached me alone and started to say things to me like, ‘What are you talking about? “. I said, “Khabib, wait a second. If someone called your brother a chicken, would you have said something to them? “. And he didn’t know what to say anymore because he knew I was right. So he turned around and left. So I picked up the phone and continued my interview. But a minute or two later, Khabib came back with fifty… I don’t know how many guys were there. He comes back and suddenly he changes. So I tell him exactly the same thing, like, “You would have done the same thing.” And he asks me the same question over and over again. “

The two were ultimately separated after Nurmagomedov gave Lobov a slight but humiliating slap in the face.

Lobov has not competed in MMA since his ouster from the UFC in 2018.
