Charles Oliveira would like to face Alexander Volkanovski or Kamaru Usman

Another goal in sight for Charles Oliveira? That’s what he implied when he talked about facing Alexander Volkanovski or Kamaru Usman.

A month after his winning title defense against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269, Charles Oliveira, along with his coach Diego Lima, believes he could go for another belt to become a two-time UFC champion.

Indeed, Diego Lima does not find it illogical to go featherweight to challenge defending champion Alexander Volkanoski or move to welterweight this time around to face Kamaru Usman. Oliveira prefers one of the two solutions, but doesn’t say no to the other (via mmafighting):

I really thought I couldn’t go down to featherweight anymore. But with my last weight reduction I was really at 70kg easily before the fight with this work that we did, with a lot of water in the body we think we can easily reach 65kg.

Charles Oliveira has not made this weight since November 2016 when he failed on the scales to face Ricardo Lamas. In the category above, among the lightweights, Oliveira won 11 of her 12 fights in the Octagon.

If I had the opportunity to go straight to featherweight for the title, I would come down to fight. Likewise, if I had the opportunity to go straight to welterweight for the belt I would also go up to fight, but I believe it’s more viable to go down to 65kg than to go to 77kg right now.. To become a champion in two divisions, for a Brazilian, that would be great“.

That would be a big challenge for Oliveira as Volkanovski and Usman are both undefeated in the UFC. Anyway, we do not yet know the next challenge for Oliveira: either it will be Gaethje as logic would like, or it will be Conor McGregor as the Irishman wants, but also… Charles Oliveira!
