Dana White announces Leon Edwards will be Kamaru Usman’s next opponent


The rematch between Kamaru Usman, the current welterweight champion and UFC number one pound for pound, and 170-pound number 3 Leon Edwards, will take place.

Dana White just announced it during her appearance on TSN Sports. Edwards (19-3) will be ” 100 % »Usman’s next opponent (20-1). More six years after the first fight between the two men, the Briton will finally have the opportunity to take his revenge.

The latter lost by unanimous decision against Nigerian Nightmare on the UFC on FOX 17 map. Since this setback, Leon Edwards remains undefeated and notably defeated Vicente Luque, Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos and Nate Diaz in his last outing.

For his part, Usman has defended his belt six times. In his last outing, the TUF 21 champion ended his rivalry with Colby Covington by defeating him by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 268. Before that, the Nigerian won twice against Jorge Masvidal and against Gilbert Burns, his former teammate.

For the moment, neither the date nor the place of the revenge between the two men has been announced. Nothing is official until the contracts are signed. Still, it makes sense for Edwards to fight for the title. In case of injury, Vicente Luque, Belal Muhammad and Khamzat Chimaev could intervene.
