Drakkar Klose booked for return after Jeremy Stephens push

Almost exactly a year after he was pushed by Jeremy Stephens in a showdown in March 2021, Drakkar Klose will return to the UFC cage.

Klose (11-2-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) and promotional newcomer Nikolas Motta have agreed to fight on April 16 in a UFC event that has yet to be announced. The fight will be three rounds and will take place in lightweight. Contracts have not yet been signed but verbal agreements are in place.

Two people familiar with the clash confirmed the targeted booking to MMA Junkie on Wednesday, but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. MMA Fighting first reported the game.

Klose hasn’t competed since a powerful push from Stephens ahead of their scheduled UFC on ESPN 22. As a result, the fight was called off and Klose reported concussion and neck issues that persisted for months. Stephens didn’t apologize for the push and told MMA Junkie last June that he viewed the push as a win.

Motta will make her long-awaited promotional debut after a 2020 victory over Dana White’s Contender series. He was booked for a UFC Fight Night 192 fight against Jim Miller, but Miller stepped down due to COVID-19 and was replaced by newcomer Cameron VanCamp. A few days before the fight, VanCamp withdrew. A replacement opponent was not found, so Motta was removed from the map.

No further fights have yet been announced for the UFC April 16 event.
