Francis Ngannou starches Stipe Miocic to win title

Francis Ngannou took his revenge on Stipe Miocic categorically.

Three years after giving up an unbalanced decision to Miocic in their 2018 title fight, Ngannou worked his way back to a rematch by scoring four straight first-round knockouts.

Ngannou replayed Miocic for the heavyweight title at the main event of UFC 260 last March, and the fight played out completely differently from their first outing. Ngannou presented a much more patient and calculated approach, landing a hard kick in the leg and connecting with a big forehand in the first round, which Miocic ate.

Miocic came in for one leg, but Ngannou defended well by stretching and landing big punches for heavy ground and a pound. The challenger followed with a high left kick, but he was never overzealous in his attack. Less than a minute after the start of the second round, Ngannou dropped Miocic with a jab but was caught rushing over the counter. But Ngannou had his own counter waiting for Miocic as he tucked him back with a thundering left hook, which got him to sit down and finished the fight.

Ngannou (16-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC) returns to action on January 22 when he takes on interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (10-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC 270 at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA

Before facing off against Gane, relive Ngannou’s finish of Miocic in the video above.
