Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev dominate Charles Oliveira

Javier Mendez has no doubts that two of his star students would be a nightmarish clash for UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

Being currently retired, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t be able to put that theory to the test, but rising American Kickboxing Academy star and Nurmagomedov’s protégé, Islam Makhachev, is well on his way to gaining this opportunity.

Makhachev (21-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) takes on Beneil Dariush in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event on February 26 and if he is victorious he could become the next challenger for the 155-pound title. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Mendez believes Nurmagomedov and Makhachev’s struggle would be too much for Oliveira.

“I know they would both beat Charles, in my opinion, because look, they’re both my fighters,” Mendez said. “Stylistically, Islam could strike, it can kick. Khabib was not a good kicker. Khabib would have to go straight to grappling with Charles and possibly dominate him there. In fact, I know he would. I know Khabib would rule him there, and I think my personal opinion, as good as Charles is, I think Islam would rule him there. too much.”

In a recent interview with ESPN, Nurmagomedov praised Oliveira (32-8 MMA, 20-8 UFC), who recently landed his first title defense when he submitted Dustin Poirier to UFC 269. Makhachev and Oliveira owning two Of the division’s longest winning streak, Nurmagomedov has said he hopes Oliveira will be champion when Makhachev gets a title shot.
