MMA – After an explosive first year in the UFC, Michael Chandler wants to continue this momentum in 2022. Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are on his wishlist.
Despite a win-to-loss record, Michael Chandler made a strong impression on his UFC debut. The former Bellator champion first beat Dan Hooker by KO. He then came close to winning the Lightweight title over Charles Oliveira. Finally, Chandler lost in the decision against Justin Gaethje in the fight of the year.
These performances keep Chandler in the title race. The American is also confident about his chances of obtaining a new title shot in 2022.
“There is no doubt the vast majority of people have been extremely entertained by this fight (against Gaethje) and would love to see me face it again. Maybe it will be for the title by the end of 2022. We’ll see, ”he said in The Fighter vs The Writer.
Before getting another chance for the belt, Chandler would see himself facing Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier.
“That’s what I wanted to do when I got to the UFC,” Chandler continued. “I wanted to fight against all the best guys. Poirier was actually one of the guys we asked for, and he refused at the very beginning, which is fine with me. He was at the top of the division and I was the outside UFC guy who was coming in. So he’s always been a name on the list. He’s a man I respect. A man I admire in sports. A guy I would love to fight against. “
“I think a fight between me and Conor would be absolutely huge,” he added. “I want these great moments, these great fights, this kind of great legendary platforms to continue building my career. “
