Rising star Ian Garry isn’t looking to be rushed

Although he’s got a lot of steam behind him, Ian Garry doesn’t want to be rushed.

The charismatic 24-year-old Irish fighter isn’t lacking in self-confidence, and just like his idol Conor McGregor on his meteoric rise, he apparently has his whole country behind him. Garry made his UFC debut on the biggest stage possible, when he scored a first round knockout against Jordan Williams at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“The Future” has expressed his intentions to return to the sport on several occasions, and although he already has a big promotional push, Garry (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) wants to take his time as he climbs his ascent. the welterweight ranks.

“I don’t want that quick climb to the top,” Garry told ESPN. “I’m not looking for a few fights, to get a world title and go out. I’m looking to beat the shit out of people. I want to go in and prove it and go. You know, when people say, “Oh, he jumped the ranks, he jumped a few” – I never want that.

“I want to win every step so that when I get that belt, when I get that shot for the title and when I win the title, no one on the planet can say, ‘Well, he hasn’t. fight this guy ‘or,’ He didn’t do that. He can speak conversation. He is Irish. He skipped the queue.

Garry, a former undefeated Cage Warriors champion, recently moved to Sanford MMA in Florida, where he trains alongside former UFC title challengers Michael Chandler and Gilbert Burns. He looks forward to an active 2022 and is ready to take on everyone in his own way.

“I’m going to take my time,” Garry said. ” I’m 24 years old. I want to fight three times a year, every year, and I want to grow up, and I want to beat people and let them know that I’m here and I’m here to take over. I’m not here to let anyone go. I’m going to take all the guys I can on my climb to the top, and I’m going to dominate. I don’t care if it takes me four or five years to get to that belt. I don’t care if I take one. I’m on my way. Whichever way it works, it’s the way it works. A slow grind is my way.
