Francis Ngannou believes he will fight Tyson Fury over the next year.
The 35-year-old fighter is competing for undisputed heavyweight king status at UFC 270, but Ngannou has openly stated that he will be leaving the UFC after his fight and plans to make waves in the lucrative boxing world.
On this subject, Ngannou the powerful Cameroonian puncher said:
“I don’t know exactly when Tyson and I will fight, but maybe sometime in 2023.”
“I’m still under contract with the UFC, so right now I don’t know the status of the situation or how it will evolve. “
“But I would tell you that the fight will probably happen at some point. It’s definitely something I want to do, but we don’t have control over it right now. “
“I know it will be a very tough fight. Not only do I come from another sport, but I’m going to test myself against one of the best boxers, maybe even the best boxer of all time. “
“But I don’t think I’ll fight someone like Ciryl Gane the same way I would against Tyson Fury. Obviously I’m confident but it will be a completely different and new thing for me. “
“Fury has obviously proven that he can last a very long time in a fight, but I’m sure I can throw my bombs at him, something he’s never experienced before. “
Ngannou could certainly pose a serious problem to Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) because his power is undeniable, but attempting to box technically with the undefeated “Gypsy King” is certainly a very difficult task.
The Cameroonian’s current deal with the UFC is set to expire if he is defeated in his fight against Ciryl Gane (10-0), but if Ngannou (16-3) wins, he would be unable to join boxing for a full year because of the champion’s clause.
