Crystal Dynamics and its new owner Embracer Group now own the Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain franchises.
The companies announced this in a short press release. “We are excited to announce that Crystal Dynamics has now acquired several game franchises, including Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain, from its previous owner, Square Enix Limited.”
The message continued: “As a result of these changes, Crystal Dynamics now owns these games and owns the gameplay and personal data related to these games.” Eidos-Montréal, which was also acquired by Embracer Group, also announced that it now owns Deus Ex and Thief.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Embracer Group was acquiring Square Enix studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix Montréal for $300 million. The aforementioned franchises have now also been officially transferred to the new owner, and user data related to these games now falls under Embracer.
Earlier this year, Crystal Dynamics announced that it is working on a new Tomb Raider game. Other than that the game will be made in Unreal Engine 5, nothing is officially known about the game. It is rumored to revolve around an older Lara Croft compared to the most recent trilogy, in which the adventurer guides a team of young explorers.
