Back entrances used: Doctor talks about Götze move from BVB to Bayern

Augsburg knee specialist Ulrich Boenisch examined Mario Götze in 2013 before moving from BVB to Bayern. Now he has revealed how the medical examination went.

The people of Munich wanted to keep the whole action a secret at the time, so Götze had to travel to Augsburg for a medical check-up.

“It was a transfer hammer then. When he was examined by us, there was the highest level of alertness. We handed out hats, used rear entrances, pure discretion,” Boenisch said in an interview with Augsburger Allgemeine.

In practice, “everything was blocked for two hours” so that the action would not come to light. “It was a great experience, also because he is a nice, polite man,” says Boenisch, one of the leading knee specialists in Europe.

Götze switched from BVB to FC Bayern in 2013 for a transfer fee of 37 million euros, but he was never able to fully assert himself there. Three years later, he returned to Dortmund and has been playing for PSV Eindhoven since 2020.
