BVB, News: Goalkeeper trainer lyrical about Gregor Kobel

In the BVB podcast of the Ruhr Nachrichten, Dortmund goalkeeper coach Matthias Kleinsteiber commented on Gregor Kobel, who came over from VfB Stuttgart for 15 million euros for the season. “Gregor was my favorite candidate from the start. He is a young guy, who fits Borussia. That’s how we define ourselves among the outfield players,” said Kleinsteiber, who has been with the club since 1992.

On the reasons for buying a new number one, the 43-year-old said: “In Marwin Hitz and Roman we have two first-class goalkeepers, but we wanted to do something different. It’s not always easy, but everyone has handled the situation … very good. So far we are really, really happy with Gregor.”

Kleinsteiber praises his praise, but sees sufficient improvement potential in Kobel: “Of course you look at the goalkeeper-specific things, and he is an all-rounder. You have to be able to recall the existing quality. It works if you play in front of 80,000 spectators when it matters ?” His conclusion: “He still has a lot of room for improvement, he can improve in all areas.”

BVB, News: Halstenberg talks about a failed move

In the summer, Marcel Halstenberg, who played in Dortmund at a young age, was about to move from RB Leipzig to Borussia Dortmund. He eventually crashed due to an injury to the left back.

In kicker, Halstenberg, whose contract with the Red Bulls expires in 2022, looked back on the failed transfer: “The Dortmund issue came up when I was preparing with the national team for the European Championship and then developed its own momentum.”

Halstenberg explains why it didn’t work out in the end: “The change didn’t happen for several reasons, including the back ankle pain and I was not fit. That cost me the start of the season and affected me for a long time.”

Now the 30-year-old hopes for an extension with the Saxons: “The first informal conversations sounded promising and were supported. That was nice to hear. Of course they want to see what I can do. If I have backup I’m on the field , real conversations will follow. I believe that a solution will then be found and that I can have a future in Leipzig.”
