Former world-class centre-back Rio Ferdinand predicted BVB midfielder Jude Bellingham to have a stellar career and even win the highest individual award for a professional footballer.
“He will win the Ballon d’Or at some point in his career,” the Manchester United legend said in a video on his own YouTube channel. “Jude has all the time in the world, but he is already an extremely impressive player.” What the young Englishman had already achieved at the age of 18 was, according to Ferdinand, “remarkable”.
The former England international had already advised the Red Devils in the past to transfer the BVB gem. “If you’re one of the top clubs, there are some talents you have to sign, if the financial conditions allow it. He’s one of those you don’t want to miss,” Ferdinand said in November last year.
Bellingham has become a key player at Borussia Dortmund since moving from Birmingham in 2020. Especially in the current season, in addition to his qualities in defense, he has also increasingly shined as the last player in attack. The 18-year-old has scored eight goals in 72 competitive appearances, of which he has scored four this season. There are also 14 assists (of which 10 this season).
Due to his performance, rumors have recently been circulating about a premature departure from BVB next summer despite a contract until 2025. Liverpool FC, among others, would have made a transfer from Bellingham a priority for ex-BVB coach Jürgen Klopp.
Recently, however, Bellingham himself took air from the discussions by sending a declaration of love to the black and yellow: “BVB is the best club for me and my development. I would even say: for me there is no better one in the whole world”.
