FC Bayern Munich: turnaround? Leon Goretzka is apparently spared surgery

Good news for Bayern Munich? As the Bild-Zeitung reports, Leon Goretzka is spared surgery.

This would appear from the latest examinations of the injured knee of the midfielder. Lately, there have been rumors that Goretzka had to go under the knife due to ongoing problems with his patellar tendon.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann also expressed his concerns about the health of the national player at a press conference. “It’s important that it doesn’t continue like this, because the condition is unbearable for him,” he said, adding: “We need to take other avenues now to make sure it doesn’t go wrong for another four to five weeks.”

Goretzka has been absent from the German record champions since the beginning of December, his last appearance was in the top match against Borussia Dortmund. Since then, the 26-year-old has been fighting unsuccessfully to return to the field.

Goretzka is also not in the selection of Munich against 1. FC Köln. He may make his return to Hertha BSC on January 23.
