A fan of Cristiano Ronaldo stormed the field after the Champions League match between Manchester United and Atalanta Bergamo (3-2). The court’s verdict against the Englishman was now harsh.
A Manchester court has sentenced 29-year-old Dex Lewis, who was born in Newport, to not attend a football match for three years. He ran into the square after the final whistle on October 20 to meet his idol, but the stewards caught the fan beforehand.
“There are signs all over every stadium indicating that you can go to court if you do such a thing — for any reason,” Judge Ronald Marshall was quoted as saying.
In addition, there is a relatively small fine of 410 euros in total, including court costs. And: for away games, he has to hand in his passport at the local police station. Lewis, however, avoided jail time.
