After a draw against Benfica, Barça is even threatened with being eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League. New coach Xavi then got into a fight.
FC Barcelona coach Xavi reacted disappointed by sharing points (0-0) with Benfica in the Champions League.
“We were clearly superior to Benfica and played a good game,” the 41-year-old told reporters afterwards. “If we had scored we would be talking about a great performance.”
Champions League: Barca probably need a win against Bayern
Before the last day of the group, the Blaugrana are two points ahead of Benfica in second place. If the Lisbon side win their last group game against Dynamo Kiev, Barca will need to score three points for Bayern at the same time. A draw is not enough to advance due to the lost direct comparison.
“I’m still optimistic,” Xavi said fiercely. “We have talent and players who can make the difference. Unfortunately there was only one point today and it is not worthy of Barca.”
The group E round of 16 finals will take place on December 8.
