The Russian vice-champion of Spartak Moscow retained his chance to winter in the Europa League. The club of German general manager Tomas Zorn beat the leaders of the Italian championship SSC Napoli 2-1 (2-0).
Spartak moved up from fourth to first in Group C until at least Thursday.
Alexander Sobolew paved the way for victory with goals in the 3rd (foul penalty) and 28th minute. Eljif Elmas (64th) only managed to catch up after the break.
For Napoli, who had already lost the first leg to Spartak 2: 3, it was the second consecutive defeat in competition. This weekend, Napoli suffered their first Serie A loss of the season in a 3-2 draw against Inter Milan.
