The entity claims that it received reports of the match and will analyze what happened in Itaquera.
FIFA made a statement this Monday morning (6) about the suspension of the match between Brazil and Argentina , on Sunday (5), in São Paulo, for the qualifiers, after Anvisa agents entered the field and interrupted the match.
The entity that commands world football lamented what happened at the Neo Química Arena and said it would analyze the official reports of the game in order to carry out an investigation.
“FIFA regrets the scenes prior to the suspension of the match between Brazil and Argentina for the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, which prevented millions of fans from enjoying a match between two of the most important football nations in the world,” said FIFA, in a note.
“The first official reports of the match were sent to FIFA. This information will be analyzed by the competent disciplinary bodies and a decision will be taken in due course,” added the entity.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino, on the other hand, classified the case at Neo Química as madness.
“At night [Sunday] everyone saw what happened in the match between Brazil and Argentina, the two most glorious South American teams. Some officials and the police entered the field and took players off the field”, said the official, during a meeting of the European Association of Clubs (ECA), on Monday. “This is crazy, but we have to deal with these challenges that add to the coronavirus crisis.”
The duel between Brazil and Argentina was interrupted 6 minutes into the game, after ANVISA agents entered the field to order the removal of four Argentine athletes who would have failed to comply with sanitary quarantine regulations when entering the country.
After the interruption, with the white-collar players in the dressing room, Conmebol announced the suspension of the duel, valid for the qualifiers for the World Cup.
The formal notification by Anvisa to the four Argentina players would only have occurred inside the stadium, according to allegations by the Federal Police, which also sent agents to Neo Química Arena. Police officers could not act until the health agency made this notification.
Once the players were notified, the police could then take the administrative measures requested by Anvisa, such as guaranteeing the isolation of these athletes and compliance with sanitary measures in force in the country.
The Argentine players left the stadium around 7:30 pm and were escorted by the Federal Highway Police to Guarulhos airport. On the spot, they were only heard by the PF and notified to leave Brazil, without the opening of an investigation for sanitary violations. The Argentine delegation boarded shortly thereafter, at 9 pm.
