Stade Rennais and Vitesse Arnhem parted ways after a very spectacular game (3: 3) with a score. The Breton club will take first place in its group at the Europa Conference Conference.
All traffic lights remain green for Stade Rennais. The Breton club are unstoppable in Ligue 1 and are trying to maintain their excellent momentum on the European scene, which is a minor feat given the pace of the calendar. On this Thursday evening, Génésio’s band only needed a small point to secure a qualified spot in their pool. It is done, with first place as a bonus after Tottenham’s loss to NS Mura (1-2).
Laborde sees threefold
It wasn’t long before Rennes put pressure on it. Concise from the start, the local heroes cleared the situation thanks to their home goal scorer Gaëtan Laborde, who had created a good technical sequence to take advantage of an opening by Martin Terrier (1-0, 9th). The former Montpellier is difficult to pin down and shows his form well every time he is out. On this Thursday evening he took up the light again to improve a well-rehearsed collective. Better, Laborde even offered a hat trick by scoring two new goals before half-time (39th) and after the hour (69th). A lesser evil for Rennes, because Vitesse had meanwhile reduced Huisman’s hit with a shot full of spontaneity (43.).
Rennes got scared
It was hard to imagine the Reds and Blacks shaking late in the game. But this meeting ended with an unexpected start for the Dutch formation into the irrational.. On two pool tables, Buitink (75th) and Openda (90th) allowed Vitesse to reappear on the wire! Rennes then had to hold on to this draw as well as possible so as not to spoil the evening and secure eighth place. Mission accomplished. This time without a mention.
