The Dutch national team has won 6-1 against Turkey at home. Memphis Depay was the big man on the side of the Orange with three goals.
The Dutch national team started great against in the Johan Cruijff Arena. Davy Klaassen gave the Orange the lead in the first minute. Virgil van Dijk sent a lovely long ball that ended up at Berghuis. Berghuis eventually got the ball to Klaassen, who entered into a one-two with Memphis and was then able to shoot in from close range. A dream start for Louis van Gaal’s men!
Not long after that, the Netherlands made it 2-0 with a beautiful goal. Klaassen and Memphis again claimed the leading role. Again it was a one-two punch, but this time the order was reversed. Memphis played to Klaassen with a bouncer, the midfielder then gave the ball back acrobatically to the Barcelona striker and he stroked the ball wonderfully in the far corner.
Before halftime, the Netherlands received a penalty after a wild tackle by Çağlar Söyüncü. He knocked down Davy Klaassen in the sixteen and so Memphis was allowed to moor. In Istanbul he missed another penalty against the Turks, but this time Memphis opted for a delicious Panenka.
To make matters worse, Söyüncü also received a red card after six minutes after the penalty, so the Turks had to continue with ten men throughout the second half.
Orange is working on goal difference
In the second half it was clearly visible that the Turks played with ten men. The Netherlands had total control of the game and quickly came to 4-0. The 27-year-old striker was the end station of an attack in which Bergwijn gave a nice ball to Berghuis. The latter kept the overview and headed the ball back to Memphis, who in turn was able to head in from close range. It means that the attacker now has a total of 33 hits for Orange. This puts him on an equal footing with none other than Johan Cruijff.
Substitute Guus Til put the Netherlands at 5-0. Teun Koopmeiners stuude his AZ buddy with a splitting pass deep. Til cut out a defender and calmly shot in.
After that it also became 6-0. Another substitute, Donyell Malen, had been looking for a hit since his substitution and eventually got it. Debutant Devyne Rensch put the ball well wide on Malen and the Borussia Dortmund attacker shot neatly in.
Only blemish: the 6-1 and an injury for Virgil van Dijk. Justin Bijlow gave a weak ball in the direction of the captain. He was later at the ball than Turkish substitute Halil Dervisoglu, via Dervisoglu and Bijlow the ball came to Under’s feet, who could shoot him into an empty goal.
