Champions League winners FC Chelsea will have to compete on the Premier League top against champions Manchester City without defender Andreas Christensen. As team manager Thomas Tuchel announced on Friday, the former Borussia Mönchengladbach player had tested positive for the corona virus. The topper will take place in Manchester on Saturday (1.30 p.m.).
Christensen was last linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer. SPOX and GOAL Germany can confirm information from Sport1 and Bild that the Westphalia are interested in the 25-year-old centre-back.
Chelsea are ten points behind City in second place. “You have to be on the limit if you want to keep up with ManCity. They are the benchmark and the best team in England,” said Tuchel. Chelsea have lost none of their last six league games, but have drawn only four times.
This widened the gap with the Citizens, who recently won 11 in a row. Chelsea had numerous corona cases in December at this stage, including from international striker Timo Werner, and some injuries. “Maybe it’s bad luck, maybe they’re doing better or whatever, but they have fewer injuries from key players,” Tuchel said.
