Gareth Southgate remains the team manager of the England national team and is expected to lead the Three Lions at least until the European Championships in Germany in 2024. The 51-year-old extended his contract until December 2024 on Monday, as the English association FA announced.
“I am very excited,” said Southgate: “It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team.”
Southgate, a five-year national coach, led England to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals in Russia. The European Championship final in London this summer was lost to Italy. In 2024, the first title since Wembley won the World Cup in 1966 at the World Cup in Qatar or the European Championship in Germany.
“We have a big opportunity ahead of us,” said Southgate, and everyone is excited to see “what this team can achieve in the future”.
