American television giant NBC has secured the rights to the English Premier League for six years. According to the New York Times newspaper, NBC is contributing $ 2.7 billion. The Premier League has thus strengthened its status as the most important foreign league in the United States.
The new contract is valid until 2028 and includes the 380 games of the season. NBC has been broadcasting Premier League games since 2013, with the network paying “only” $ 1.1 billion (around € 970 million) for the latest deal.
The new deal overshadows all previous television contracts with foreign football leagues in the United States. In May, ESPN paid $ 1.4 billion for rights to the Spanish league, or about 175 million per season over eight years. The Premier League deal, on the other hand, brings in around $ 450 million per season.
The Bundesliga has been broadcast in the USA on ESPN + since the 2020/21 season. The contract between the DFL and the American broadcaster owned by the Walt Disney Company covers six seasons. According to SPONSOR information, ESPN pays around 35 million euros per season for broadcast rights.
