Premier League problem child Newcastle United are apparently facing the second winter transfer. As Sky Sports reports, the Magpies have signed Burnley striker Chris Wood’s escape clause – the transfer fee is around £25m.
For Newcastle, currently penultimate in the English top division, it would be the second transfer after the takeover of investors. A few days ago, the club had taken over Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
Wood could replace striker Callum Wilson after the club’s top goalscorer will be out for about two months with a calf injury, according to coach Eddie Howe.
It remains to be seen whether the 30-year-old New Zealand international can kick the team out of the relegation zone. In the current season, he has scored just three goals in 17 league appearances.
