Premier League club Newcastle United have taken over England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
The clubs made this official on Friday. The right back, who played five games for the Three Lions at the last European Championship, costs almost 15 million euros in transfer fees according to media reports and signed for two and a half years.
Trippier returns to his homeland according to information from SPOX and GOAL with an annual salary of nine million euros. The 31-year-old is Newcastle’s first transfer since it was taken over by a Saudi Arabian state fund last fall.
Trippier, who once played for Tottenham Hotspur, among others, returns to the island after two and a half years. His contract with Atletico ran until 2023. According to Spanish media, he wanted to move to England for family reasons.
His new club has major problems in the Premier League and is deep in the relegation battle. The enormous financial resources of the new club owners are fueling fierce transfer speculation. More notable pledges are expected in the coming weeks.
