Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has responded to criticism from Blues striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian had previously stated in an interview with Sky Sport in Italy that he was not satisfied with his situation with the Londoners.

Tuchel reacted to this on Friday at the press conference for the match against Liverpool (5:30 PM on Sunday). “Of course we don’t like that. It brings in background noise that we don’t need,” Tuchel said, adding, “It’s not convenient, but we don’t want to make it more than it really is.”

However, he was “surprised” by Lukaku’s complaint, Tuchel said, as he did not think “Lukaku is currently displeased”. Tuchel continued: “When you’re a big player like Romelu, he certainly knows what it’s worth when he speaks out.”

Instead, the coach announced that he and his coaching team would take the time “to see what’s going on. We’ll, of course, discuss it internally.”

Lukaku had also spoken in the interview about his departure from Inter Milan. The 28-year-old left Nerazzurri in the summer, just a few months after winning their first Serie A title in 11 years.

Lukaku became even clearer: “First I want to apologize to the Inter fans because I think the way I left should have been different. Chelsea let the attacker cost 115 million euros in the summer. So far, Lukaku has scored seven goals in 18 appearances for the Blues. The 28-year-old’s contract runs until 2026.
