Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has responded to criticism from Blues striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian had previously stated in an interview with Sky Sport in Italy that he was not satisfied with his situation with the Londoners.
According to information from SPOX and GOAL, but Lukaku made his statements three weeks ago, changing the context a bit: Lukaku was currently struggling with the return of injury and then with a corona infection.
“I’m not happy with the situation and that’s only natural. The coach has decided to play a different system and I can’t resist. I have to keep working hard and stay professional,” Lukaku said at the time. This interview was finally published Thursday – and promptly caused a sensation.
Tuchel reacted to this on Friday at the press conference for the match against Liverpool (5:30 PM on Sunday). “Of course we don’t like that. It brings in background noise that we don’t need,” Tuchel said, adding, “It’s not convenient, but we don’t want to make it more than it really is.”
However, he was “surprised” by Lukaku’s complaint, Tuchel said, as he did not think “Lukaku is currently displeased”. Tuchel continued: “When you’re a big player like Romelu, he certainly knows what it’s worth when he speaks out.”
Instead, the coach announced that he and his coaching team would take the time “to see what’s going on. We’ll, of course, discuss it internally.”
