Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President, Director and Hardware Designer Masayasu Ito is leaving.
Sony announced this in a statement. As of October 1, he will no longer be working for Sony’s gaming branch. According to Bloomberg, 60-year-old Ito is retiring. His place is taken by Lin Tao who was already working as a director. Kiichiro Urata also becomes a director (via VGC).
Ito worked for Sony since 1986 and joined the company’s gaming arm in 2000. He was put in charge of hardware design. He was responsible for the design of several accessories for the PlayStation two and LCD monitors for the first PlayStation.
He then worked on the design of the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3, after which he designed software and hardware for the PlayStation 4.
