Lars Gustavsson, the creative director of the Battlefield series, is leaving developer Dice.
EA and Dice announced this in a blog post discussing the future of the series. Gustavsson worked at the studio for over twenty years and was known as “Mr Battlefield” internally and by gamers. It’s not clear what he’ll do next, but according to the blog post, “he’s ready for a new adventure.”
EA has announced that development of the Battlefield franchise will now be led by Vince Zampella – formerly of Respawn Entertainment – Rebecka Coutaz at Dice, Christian Grass at Ripple Effect Studios and Alex Seropian at Industrial Toys.
It was also announced today that a new EA studio in Seattle that will be working on a Battlefield campaign is called Ridgeline Games. That studio is headed by Marcus Lehto, the co-creator of Halo.
According to EA, the above studios must work together to “create a connected Battlefield universe” and “unlock the series’ potential to become one of the best first-person shooter franchises in the world”.
