Microsoft has confirmed that GoldenEye 007 on Xbox Game Pass will not include online multiplayer.
A company spokesperson told journalist Tom Warren that. The company “has no plans to add online multiplayer to GoldenEye 007 on Xbox Game Pass”. The company does emphasize that the game includes local multiplayer.
It was revealed yesterday that the Nintendo 64 shooter GoldenEye 007 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass. At the time, reports already seemed to suggest that only the Switch version will get online multiplayer, and not the Xbox version. That now turns out to be true.
According to reports, there are two different versions of the game. GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo Switch Online seems to be a port of the N64 games without extra bells or whistles – except for the online multiplayer. However, the Xbox Game Pass version gets a polish and has a 4k resolution. Incidentally, people who have purchased a digital copy of Rare Replay can download GoldenEye 007 for free, regardless of whether they have a Game Pass subscription. A release date for both versions has not yet been announced.
There have been rumors for years about a possible re-release of the Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007. Due to different licensees, the game was never re-released on another platform. Rare, which is now part of Microsoft, developed the game, but Nintendo and MGM also own the rights. Previously, Microsoft and Rare would have tried to bring the game to Xbox, but Nintendo would have stopped that. Earlier this year, Xbox achievements of the game leaked out.
GoldenEye 007 appeared on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 and is based on the James Bond film GoldenEye. The game was known for realistic shooting action for the time. In addition to a campaign, the game also featured a four-player local multiplayer mode, which was in great demand.
