The “Acura” lettering will appear on the cars, racing suits and helmets of Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri during the GP weekend in Austin. The brand was last present in Formula 1 14 years ago.
In the 1980s and 1990s brands, the Acura lettering was a regular feature at races in Canada and the USA, and it adorned the visors of Formula 1 legends Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, for example. But in the past 14 years, the high-performance brand from Honda was no longer seen in the premier class.
That will change at the upcoming USA GP in Texas, because both Red Bull Racing and AlphaTauri will show the Acura logo on the rear wings of the cars. In addition, the lettering will be emblazoned on the racing overalls and helmets of the drivers Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez, Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda.
“I still remember Alain Prost winning the 1989 USA GP with Acura on his visor. And I hope that we will achieve the same result with the brand this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, ”says Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner.
AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost is also enthusiastic: “We are delighted that we have the opportunity to show such an iconic brand on our cars at the USA GP in Austin – especially because it was so many years ago that Acura last appeared in this sport. We’re experiencing one of the best world championships we’ve had so far and I hope Pierre and Yuki can perform at their best this weekend so that we can celebrate as a team with Acura, as other Formula 1 legends have done in the past. »
Honda F1 Managing Director Masashi Yamamoto is delighted: “It’s very special that Acura is part of our partnership with Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2021 USA GP. This has been an incredible season so far and we are proud to show the Acura brand in this famous race.”
