Albon about Verstappen title win: “We were lucky, but we deserved it”

With the win of the world title, Alexander Albon saw luck finally fall in the direction of Red Bull Racing for Max Verstappen. The Thai Briton has played an important role behind the scenes in the battle for the title last season.

Albon will drive for the Williams team next year. There he will have to help the team with points together with Nicholas Latifi. The 25-year-old Albon did a lot of simulation work for Verstappen and teammate Sergio Pérez last year. He therefore sees his own role in the Dutchman’s title win.

“Not been in vain”

At Motorsport.com, the future Williams driver says: “This title feels great, also for me. Even if I only contributed 0.1 percent to the final result, it has not been in vain and this success gives me great satisfaction .” The title fight has also made Albon’s work more important in the past year. For example, the Thai Briton was responsible for the basic setting of the Red Bull cars.

Luck

In the battle for the title, Red Bull lacked luck at times. Albon therefore thinks it is right that Verstappen has been crowned world champion. “Just look at Silverstone, Hungary, Jeddah and even the first round here in Abu Dhabi. So yes, we were incredibly lucky at the last minute, but at the same time I think we deserved that luck,” he says. When asked whether Mercedes may be disadvantaged in Abu Dhabi, Albon is clear: “Most things can be crossed out against each other over a season.”
